Women Empowerment
As on 31th December 2009, there are 67
SHG (Self Help Groups)s under CORD Thamaraipakkam’s fold.
Two new groups were formed in Kanniyaman Nag ar
near Thamaraipakkam Village during November 2009. The total
membership of all SHGs is about 1240 women. There are 6
Magalir Mandrams (Mahila Mandals) formed In 2 Villages (4 In
Thamaraipakkam, 1 In Magaral & 1 in Ramanathapuram Village
in Pakkam Panchayath) during December 2009.

In addition to 26 group who availed Revolving Fund Loans in
March 2009 , who 6 Groups were graded by BDO office on
November 14.2009 and they are waiting for Revolving Funds.

Teaching Life Skills
Tailoring
& Dress Making Classes:
As on 31st December 2009, CORD-Thamaraipakkam completed 6
Batches of Tailoring course in Thamaraipakkam and 2 batches
in Pandeswaram Village. On January 2010 they are planning to
start an Embroidery class for women.
Vocational Training in
Computers for Youth:
As on 31st December 2009, CORD-Thamaraipakkam
completed 1st Batch of Computer course (3 month Course)
which was held in Thamaraipakkam. The Vedanta foundation
conducted the assessment test for the 1st batch students
during first week of December. They are now canvassing
student for the 2nd batch.
Our 1st Batch Computer students also underwent a skill
development test conducted by National
Council
for Vocational Training under Ministry of Labor and
Employment under the Government of India for securing a
National Certificate of Modular Employable Skills. All the
students have done test well and are likely to be awarded by
the Certificate which will enhance their potential for
getting jobs. CORD-Thamaraipakkam coordinated this activity
with EdServe Software Ltd.,Chennai.
Youth Clubs:
CORD-Thamaraipakkam has formed 3 youth groups in
Thamaraipakkam & Magral Village. On January 2010, They are
in the process of getting them registered with Nehru Yuva
Kendra.
Free Computer Classes for Kids:
The ‘BHUMI’ volunteers continue to organize free Computer
classes on Sundays for the Kids in CORD Thamaraipakkam
Center. These classes are going on successfully.
CORD-Thamaraipakkam joined hands with BHUMI in organizing a
motivational entertainment program for children from over 25
orphanages attended by over700 children on 15th November
2009.
Chinmaya Tuition Centers in
Villages:
Tuition Centers are active as usual. The
Vazhnthu Kattuvon Trust a Government of Tamil Nadu
initiative is taking a cue from has embarked on this
activity with FREE tuitions where as CORD-Thamaraipakkam
encourage the students to offer a token Voluntary
Participatory Contributions.

Formation of Farmer's Club
Formation of Farmers club:
On 26th & 27th November 2009 a Farmers Club from Perumal
Kovil Street Thamaraipakkam went to for an exposure visit on
NAF’s (National agro Foundation) Model Farm
in Elledu Village, Kancheepuram District. Mr. Manikandan and
Mr. Sathish Kumar the Prof. Ramasubramaniam from NAFand .
During the visit the farmers observed:
• SRI (System rice Intensification),
• Organic Farming,
• Checking the Quality of Paddy Seeds for yield,
• Vermi Compost and the importance of Vermi compost for
Agriculture.
These things are very useful for the farmers.
As on 31st December 2009 CORD-Thamaraipakkam formed three
farmers club in Thamaraipakkam. Out of these three, two
farmers Clubs were registered in NABARD (i) Chinmaya Farmers
Club Poosalimedu (ii) Chinmaya Perumal Farmers Club.

Environmental Awareness Campaign
Green
Thamaraipakkam Project:
So far 990 Saplings have been planted by 525 families in
Thamaraipakkam Mango 250, Guava 200, Gooseberry 215, Lime
250, Jamun 125= Total 990. To generate awareness about the
benefits of the Scheme, Street Plays by CORD-Thamaraipakkam
Volunteers under the banner of ‘Chinmaya Folk Arts Group’
would be held in all the Hamlets.
Eco Friendly smokeless Stoves:
To continue the promotion of Smokeless
Eco
Friendly stoves are supplied for 5 more families.
Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC)
The work on promoting building of Domestic Toilets is
continuing.
As on 31st December 2009, 10 house-hold toilets were
completed by in Thamaraipakkam &
14 Toilets were built in Sembedu Panchayath under
CORD-Thamaraipakkam's guidance. We helped them to get the
Government subsidy from BDO’s Office.

Volunteer Visit from USA
Six volunteers from Chinmaya Mission , Los Angeles
visited CORD Thamaraipakkam from 21st to 30th Dec 2009
This group included two boys and two girls from CHYK and two
lady Balvihar Sevikas. They interacted with volunteers and
shared their experiences. They visited CORD-Thamaraipakkam
Tuition Center and SHGs .
